The internet as we know it came into existence in the 1990’s. Consequently, those generations born in the 1990’s and beyond never knew life without the World Wide Web. For Generations Z and A, commonly referred to as digital natives, hopping on the internet comes second nature. What about the rest of us?
People who were not born into a tech-savvy world are known as digital immigrants, because we had to learn those skills later in life. Aside from age, many factors like access to technology, culture, and education may also contribute to the divide. Whatever your circumstances, those of us who feel more like digital immigrants might find ourselves struggling to keep up. If you fit into this category, have no fear – you’re not alone. Digital immigrants make up more than half of the world’s population.
While we cannot alter this reality, we can use the skills we have to adapt and overcome. It is up to us to decide how we will utilize our years of experience living in an analog world and apply that knowledge to an ever-changing digital future.
